5 REASONS TO 'STIR IT UP' WITH LEMON WATER ~ WITHINUS TEAM

When life hands you lemons, squeeze them into water and drink up!

TruFact:  Lemons are packed with nutrients; high in vitamin C, B-complex vitamins, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium (great for heart health, as well as brain and nerve function) and fiber.

About 15-30 minutes before we have breakfast, we start our day with a cup of hot or room temperature lemon water. It is a refreshing way to begin your day and it hosts many health benefits. We have listed our top 5 reasons to stir it up with lemon water.

Lemon Water: The Benefits

1 - Helps With Digestion

This is especially beneficial for those with an under-active stomach that struggle to break down food. Not only does lemon water help with toxins in your digestive tract, it can aid with heartburn and bloating. When consumed first thing in the morning before food, it helps ‘wake up’ the digestive tract and prepares it to better absorb nutrients.

2 - Improves Skin Health

Vitamin C helps fight free radicals in the body, which are significant contributors to aging skin. Increasing vitamin C can help improve skin elasticity by removing toxins from the blood and helping to form collagen (1). When you add withinUs TruMarine™ Collagen into your lemon water, the vitamin C from the lemon can help with absorption and they work very well together.

3 - Reduces Inflammation

Drinking lemon water on a regular basis helps to decrease the levels of acidity in your body. Lemon juice in its natural state is acidic, but once digested, it becomes alkaline.  Inflammation is caused by high acid levels in the body. Joint inflammation is mainly caused by the buildup of uric acid in the joints. When you drink lemon water, you will prevent this build up, reducing joint inflammation.

4 - Boosts Immune System

Lemon water is a great way to ensure that you are starting your day with an immune boost!  Our immune system strongly depends on the intake of nutrients, (2) and vitamin C works as a factor in nutrient absorption in the body (3). Lemons are high in vitamin C, and without enough vitamin C in your body you become more vulnerable to infection and disease.

5 - Antioxidants

We are in contact with free radicals daily whether it be from car exhaust, alcohol or heavy metals. Lemons are one of the highest sources of antioxidants among the citrus fruits (4). Vitamin C is the antioxidant and cofactor that helps the absorption of other nutrients. Having an adequate intake of antioxidants can lessen the burden of free radical damage on the body.

Note:  Those with weak tooth enamel will want to drink lemon water sparingly, or dilute it with more water as lemons do contain citric acid.

Stirring it up each morning with lemon water is a simple change you can make for your overall health. We also squeeze fresh lemon juice on plant-based iron-rich foods (i.e. spinach, chickpeas) as it maximizes the body's ability to absorb iron.

Hi! We just received our first order of collagen. I see above that it would be very helpful to add the collagen to lemon water; sounds great! My husband is curious what is the most beneficial way to take it? I know that it can be added to pretty much anything, but to get the most benefit, what would you suggest? He drinks a Herbalife Shake every morning. Should he add it to that or would taking it separately be better? Thanks so much! Mary
