Protein powders are often thought of as bulking agents for people who want to increase muscle mass. In our research (and experience) there are more reasons to take a protein supplement: it is a quick and convenient way to ensure that your body is meeting its nutritional needs, and can be used by a diverse group of individuals such as athletes, the elderly, and those that are often on the go. Protein, in general, is an essential part of your diet and is required to maintain muscle mass, repair tissue, help boost metabolism, and is good for overall health. It is important to note that not all protein powders are created equal.
As humans, we cannot survive without macronutrients, which consist of: protein, carbohydrates and fats. Protein is a very important factor for our overall health, and as we have mentioned, is essential for building/maintaining muscle, repairing tissue, and assisting with the formation of hormones and enzymes. Proteins are also the main building blocks of your body composition and are used to regenerate muscles, tendons, skin and organs.
A person's protein requirements vary depending on age, body weight and activity level. The recommended daily intake of protein, for example, for healthy individuals 35 years and older is approximately:
Women: 46g / day
Men: 56g / day
These levels of course differ depending on the individual, for example, for those that are looking to gain muscle, the requirements will be higher. It is important to note that in order to build muscle mass, increased protein intake must be combined with exercise (weight training) to yield results, and not on protein intake alone.
Depending on lifestyle, eating habits, and diet, some people may find it challenging to meet their daily protein requirements. Supplementing with a premium, certified organic, NonGMO plant protein powder is an easy and convenient solution to ensure that you are meeting your daily protein requirements. Adding a quality supplement to your morning smoothie or homemade protein bar or pancakes provides your body with a fast source of essential nutrients to help fuel your body.
WHY WITHINUS PLANT PROTEIN + TRUMARINE™ COLLAGEN?
In 2017 the discussion began: our team sat down and was talking about protein supplements that we have tried, and what we would recommend for each other BUT none of us were happy with any products we had tried. We talked about what our IDEAL protein supplement would look like:
- certified organic
- plant based (NOT sourced from whey)
- easily digested (sprouted/fermented ingredients)
- sugar and stevia free
- preferably unflavored
- smooth (grit-free)
The discussion about our ideal protein supplement resulted in an unsuccessful endeavour, which eventually lead to us deciding to create our own signature blend.

THE BENEFITS OF WITHINUS TRUMARINE™ COLLAGEN:
withinUs TruMarine™ Collagen consists of 18 amino acids, 7 of which are essential amino acids. Much different from other protein sources, collagen peptides contain a unique combination and ratio of amino acids (protein) - most importantly glycine, proline and hydroxyproline have been shown to be responsible for collagen production. You will not find this combination and high ratio of those specific 3 amino acids in any plant-based protein which is one of the reasons what makes our withinUs Plant Protein + TruMarine™ Collagen like no other on the market.
We did not include sugar, stevia, colors, flavors, preservatives, gums or thickeners, which are all commonly found in other protein powders.
SOURCE: PLANT-BASED vs WHEY
Whey protein supplements are abundant. In short, whey is a by-product of the dairy industry and is created during the process of turning cow milk into cheese. People often have a difficult time digesting whey protein because it contains lactose, and nearly 65% of the world's population is lactose intolerant (1). Also, as a by-product of the dairy industry, whey protein can contain contaminants - such as growth hormones and antibiotics.
Protein sourced from plants such as pea, brown rice, and quinoa are great sources of clean protein, and are not common allergens, making them easier for most people to consume. Plant protein sources are also, in general, easier to digest when compared to whey.
NUTRIENTS: SPROUTED/FERMENTED vs CONVENTIONAL
Sprouting and/or fermenting plant protein sources creates a more nutrient dense and easier to digest final product. These processes reduce the phytic acid levels in the plants, and unlock the vitamins and minerals, making them readily available and easily absorbed.
Protein powders that are not sprouted or fermented often add digestive enzymes or probiotics to their product as they can be difficult for the body to digest. The problem is that shelf-stable probiotics are not very effective and therefore do not add true value.
QUALITY: CONVENTIONAL vs ORGANIC
Organic foods are grown without the use of toxins such as pesticides which have been linked to various illnesses. Organic farming practices help to reduce pollution, improves soil fertility and uses less energy. It also results in more nutrients than conventional farming and organic also means NON-GMO.
