TruFact:  Approximately 75% of North Americans are dehydrated (1). Dehydration can cause unclear thinking, headaches, overheating of the body, and mood swings (2). Keeping hydrated with water alone is beneficial, but maximized hydration can only be attained with the support of electrolytes.

The withinUs Team found it challenging to find an electrolyte drink that met our high standards. Many electrolyte products (sports drinks) we found included excess vitamins, minerals, high levels of sugar, and artificial flavors.

We decided to create our own electrolyte drink mix that is high quality, pure, and delicious.  After a year of sourcing and taste-testing, we launched our original organic lemon withinUs ReHydrate + TruMarine Collagen.

What are electrolytes?

Electrolytes are minerals found in the body. These important minerals cannot be produced within the body, and instead must be acquired through food and supplements. Essential electrolyte minerals include: Sodium, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium and Chloride.

These minerals are imperative for two main processes:

1. Regulating the flow of water in and out of cells.

2. Igniting nerve impulses (responsible for muscle contractions and heart function). (3)

Why do we need them?

Electrolytes regulate nerve and muscle function, balance blood pH and blood pressure, and help rebuild muscle tissue. Dehydration is the primary reason that we require electrolytes. Electrolytes lost after sweating or exercise are difficult to replace naturally, causing dehydration. Rehydrating with water alone does not replace the lost electrolytes (4), which is why supplementation is important after sweating and exercise.

When do we need them?

Exercise: Working up a sweat during exercise depletes your body of both water and electrolytes. Be sure to rehydrate with an electrolyte during or after a workout session to improve your athletic performance and speed up recovery. Remember, what you do before and after your workouts is equally as important as the workout itself.

Sun Exposure: Dehydration is common when exposed to the sun and heat. The addition of an electrolyte supplement to your water will replace the electrolytes and water lost in order for you to enjoy the heat.

Traveling: When traveling by air, your body undergoes drastic physiological changes due to the change in altitude. Additionally, airplane cabins are low in humidity, which is why skin tends to feel dry. Having a glass of water with ReHydrate prior to boarding your flight, and during (depending on the length of your flight) will help prevent dehydration and alleviate jet-lag.

How much ReHydrate do I need?

Traveling by air: 1 stick pack/scoop (2 stick packs if flying longer than 4 hours)

Beach day: 1-2 stick packs/scoops

Workout (under 60 mins): 1-2 stick packs/scoops

Workout (over 60 mins): 2-3 stick packs/scoops 

Note: Do not exceed 4 stick packs/scoops per day.

DIRECTIONS: Mix 1 stick pack/scoop to 250mL cold water.

TIP: To dissolve faster and avoid clumps - mix 1 stick pack/scoop with 1/4 cup of warm water, stir until dissolved, and top up with cold water and ice.
