MYTHS VS FACTS
MYTH: COLLAGEN SUPPLEMENTS DON’T WORK
FACT: withinUs™ TruMarine® Collagen is clinically proven to yield benefits in approximately 4-6 weeks. Marine collagen, specifically and exclusively from the scales of wild-caught fish in granular form has been proven to be superior and better absorbed and utilized by the body. Other collagen products are in pill or capsule form (not ideal), liquid, or in heavy powder form, and are most commonly sourced from bovine, porcine, avian or fish skin. In particular, liquid collagen, which is a more heavily processed version of powdered collagen, is typically sourced from a lower-grade, powdered collagen before being turned into liquid. Liquid collagen is then combined with water, flavouring, sweeteners, preservatives and other additives to make it more palatable.
withinUs™ TruMarine® Collagen is Health Canada approved, meaning our claims are backed by science. Randomized Double Blind Placebo Control (RDBPC) studies are a requirement of Health Canada (and other health authorities) when reviewing natural health products and approving beneficial health claims and are considered the gold standard of epidemiological studies.
Recent misinformation that has surfaced calls out collagen studies for not comparing collagen to other protein sources. FACT - withinUs™ TruMarine® Collagen Health Canada Approved studies are compared to a double-blind placebo control which provides the strongest possible evidence of causation.

MYTH: BONE BROTH IS BETTER THAN COLLAGEN
FACT: Bone broth has become popular in the past few years due to its benefits, but are these benefits comparable to taking a premium collagen supplement? The quick answer to this question is NO.
To build on this, bone broth is made by boiling/simmering the bones and connective tissues of animals (mainly chickens, cows, and fish). During this process, bones and connective tissue are boiled for a long period of time, allowing the nutrients to break down and excreted into the broth.
This process can also excrete negative components found in the bones, such as toxins that have leached into the animals bones from their food and environment.
In theory, bone broth does contain collagen, but due to the high molecular weight of collagen in bone broth, it is not not easily absorbed into the bloodstream. This means that you would need to consume a lot of bone broth to equate to consuming 5 grams of withinUs™ TruMarine® Collagen which is absorbed quickly and easily into the bloodstream.
Food items do not undergo the same testing and/or monitoring as supplements/vitamins, and therefore cannot legally make claims or prove possible benefits of consuming that particular food.
MYTH: ANY/ALL PROTEIN CAN OFFER THE SAME BENEFITS AS COLLAGEN
FACT: withinUs™ TruMarine® Collagen differs from other protein sources as it contains a unique concentration and ratio of 3 specific amino acids (Hydroxyproline, Proline, and Glycine) that promote collagen production within your body by activating fibroblasts. This concentration of these 3 amino acids are not found in plant sources or common proteins and therefore are not consumed by those with a strict plant based/vegan diet.

MYTH: COLLAGEN AND GELATIN ARE THE SAME
FACT: Collagen and gelatin are NOT the same. The main difference between collagen peptides and gelatin products is the molecular weight of the final product, also, gelatin is a food product that does not have Health Canada approved benefits and cannot make health related claims.
TruMarine® Collagen has a low molecular weight (3000-5000 Daltons), meaning that it is broken down into amino acid chains that can be easily absorbed into your bloodstream. Gelatin has a high molecular weight that is not readily absorbed.
The higher molecular weight, and larger amino acid chains of gelatin material is also the reason that it produces a gelatinous texture when added to liquids.

MYTH: TRUMARINE® COLLAGEN AND MILK OFFER THE SAME JOINT BENEFITS
FACT: Third party, double-blind studies have clinically proven that TruMarine® Collagen is superior to Casein (a protein commonly found in mammalian milk) in its potential to enhance bone mineral density.

MYTH: THE MORE COLLAGEN I TAKE, THE BETTER RESULTS I GET
FACT: with withinUs™ TruMarine® Collagen, the recommended daily serving is only 5 grams. Many other collagen brands encourage 10-20g/ day. The superior absorption rate of our collagen means that you do not need to consume more than 5 grams to experience benefits.
Why only 5g? withinUs offers a high quality, Ultra-Pure, premium source of hydrolyzed marine collagen which directly results in a superior absorption rate. withinUs™ TruMarine® Collagen is backed by independent clinical trials.
KNOW YOUR SOURCE: wild-caught fish (marine) collagen sourced exclusively from fish scale (vs fish skin or bovine) results in a 1.5 x more effective absorption rate.
MYTH: COLLAGEN CONTAINS HEAVY METALS
FACT: withinUs™ TruMarine® Collagen is clean and pure, produced with no heat, acids or harsh chemicals and is regulated and routinely tested for impurities and heavy metals. withinUs only offers one grade, one source, and withinUs™ TruMarine® Collagen is stringently tested a minimum of 2 times by independent experts for heavy metals including lead and mercury for each production run.
MYTH: COLLAGEN SOURCE IS NOT IMPORTANT
FACT: TruMarine® Collagen is the highest grade of collagen peptides on the market and offers superior absorption rates. Sourced from the scales of sustainable and wild-caught fish - it is simply the best.
Collagen is a naturally occurring protein found within the body, and therefore all sources of collagen are animal derived – there are no plant based (vegan) collagen sources.
We repeat, THERE ARE NO PLANT BASED COLLAGEN SOURCES.
Collagen products sourced from land animals (cattle, pig, chicken) and fish SKIN have a greater risk for impurities such as oils and toxins which are leached into the skin and bones of the animal it is sourced from.
The most common collagen sources are:
- Bovine – sourced from cow skin or bones
- Porcine – sourced from pig skin or bones
- Avian – sourced from chicken skin or bones
- Marine – farmed fish skin or fish scales, or a combination of both
From the above list of collagen sources, wild-caught fish scales is considered the highest, premium-select grade. withinUs™ TruMarine® Collagen is sourced from only the scales of wild-caught fish and is inarguably the highest grade of collagen (based on science and studies) available on the market, period.
- Sourced exclusively from sustainable, wild-caught fish scales.
- Fish scales are a very pure, clean, abundant source of collagen.
- 1.5 times more bioavailable than ALL other sources/types of collagen (including fish skin).
- Ultra-Pure - stringently tested for impurities and contaminants, including lead and mercury.
- Dissolves crystal clear in hot or cold liquids - our collagen is in granular form (not powder), which dissolves quicker and easier than heavy powders overall.
- Virtually tasteless and odourless - easy to add into your daily routine.
- No heat, chemicals, or acids are used to break down withinUs™ TruMarine® Collagen , rather the use of natural enzymes to break down the collagen into a peptide, this process is called hydrolyzation.
- NO additives, fillers, colors, or stabilizers.
- Non-GMO project verified.
